Helping our community

One creek at a time.

Deckers Creek

Meandering and descending through a steep gorge, this beautiful tributary is filled with waterfalls, boulders, and rock slides, making it an attractive destination for kayakers and rock climbers.

Over the years, Deckers Creek has suffered. Acid mine drainage (AMD) from West Virginia's many abandoned coal mines and other pollutants harm the 64 square mile watershed and destroy natural habitats.

What We Do

Friends of Deckers Creek works to clean up the decades of environmental degradation inflicted on our watershed through AMD remediation projects, trash clean-ups, community outreach, and environmental education.

Keep Updated

Friends of Deckers Creek

Friends of Deckers Creek (FODC) is a non-profit organization with the mission to improve and monitor the water quality of Deckers Creek. Deckers Creek meanders through Preston and Monongalia counties in West Virginia connecting several communities along its route.

As part of FODC's Clean Creek Program, fish assessment is performed at our 13 sampling sites across the watershed. These ones were near Sabraton and Dellslow. Check them out!

Join us to drink to clean water!

Ticket registrations are now open for Drafts on Deckers. ALL funds from the proceeds night go to FODC and help fund our environmental education program throughout the year.

In the beginning of December, we moved to the Woodburn Elementary School, which has been re-purposed for nonprofit offices thanks to the Woodburn School Redevelopment Commission.

Our new office is located at 205 Parsons Street, Morgantown, WV 26505.

Save water, drink beer!

The second annual Drafts on Deckers will take place once again this year on Friday, October 21st.

Hosted at the Morgantown Brewing Co., the evening will feature beers from breweries across West Virginia and live music, including the High Street Jazz Band. Have a jolly good time while supporting FODC!

On July 31st, FODC held its first Paint Exchange to facilitate the reuse and recycling of old paint in the Morgantown area. We collected close to 100 cans, and individuals picked up around 45-50 cans.

With the leftover paint, we will repaint the FODC mural at Hazel Ruby Waterfront in Morgantown on August 27th and 28th. Our YAB mural has sadly been hit by graffiti and could use a face-lift. What better way to do so than with reducing waste!
